Synopsis: What in the world has happened? They saw him die. They took the body down and put it in the grave. The Romans came and sealed the tomb. Now everything is in chaos. It had to have something of that feel the morning of the resurrection. Jesus had talked about the resurrection being true but we never gave it much thought. Now it has happened. Our people have seen him! It is the clearest evidence; Jesus has been raised. We do not believe it because it is a story in the Bible, we believe it because it has happened. Once He was dead and now, he is alive!
Synopsis: Palm Sunday tends to be an exciting time. We have palm branch we wave, we sing glorious songs commemorating the entrance of Jesus into the Holy City of Jerusalem, we in some sense want to identify with Jesus as he gets the praise and warm welcome of the people. However, Palm Sunday is also a day, more than any other, where we see a tremendous shift in the direction and momentum of the Christ’s journey toward the cross. Considering our Love Feast held that evening, I will use the morning service as a time of examination/reflection. How well do we “remember” what Christ has done for us and how well do we allow it to comfort us in the low moments of our walk and motivate us in our everyday life.
Synopsis: Peter’s escape from prison. Jesus says he is The Truth that sets us free. He says he holds the key to death and life, hell and heaven. The cross is that key. We are chained, bound, controlled, restricted by many things. Guilt and sin and shame. Fear and worry. Resentment and bitterness. Even hard life circumstances like illness or loss. But there is hope, because WHATEVER the chains, Jesus is our Chain Breaker.
